Approach
& Radio Procedure
There
is no longer a need to radio in for permission to moor
in Simon's Town. However, please make contact with the
club before arrival, if possible, in order to arrange
a suitable mooring.
In the event of an emergency, the club bosun may be
contacted after hours on 782 3798. Visiting yachts may
tie up at the False Bay Yacht Club working jetty or
the Simon's Town Jetty before reporting to the club
secretary or the duty officer. A mooring will then be
allocated.
Port
Facilities & Regulations
Club
registered boats may only leave their moorings under
the control of a certified skipper. Diesel and water
are available at the Town jetty. Petrol may be obtained
from the local garage, approximately 100m away. One
or two marine repair firms operate in Simon's Town and
the club bosun can advise visiting yachtsmen in this
regard. The speed limit is 4 knots in the harbour.
Clearance
Formalities
No clearance formalities are required for South African
yachts except to complete the details required in the
departure register at the Club. This takes only a few
seconds and is a Navy regulation. Simon's Town is not
a port of entry and departure for foreign-going vessels.
However, once boats have arrived here, clearance must
be arranged through the Navy, or by going into Cape
Town by train after arrival or 36 hours before departure.
