Approaches

When approaching the South Breakwater, care must be taken during and after SW gales, due to heavily breaking seas. Radio procedure Dual watch VHF channels 16 and 12. Call up East London Port Control on channel 16 for clearance to enter harbour. Port Control will direct you to the Yacht Basin.

Flag signal "I" on NE side of mast indicate vessel entering Flag signal "H" on SW side of mast indicates vessel leaving Black ball halfway up mast indicates bar dangerous Black ball close up indicates port is closed

Red light indicates port is closed Red lights indicate vessel is sailing Green lights indicate vessel entering
